PINK FREUD AND THE PLEASANT HORIZON,  is a playful humoristic look at general psychology, the many symbols of sexuality, the idea of a suburban utopia, the distraction of trains and tunnels, and the mystery of electricity at night.

Set in a fictitious town somewhere in northern Europe, Pink Freud stars as the observer of this pop-psychology landscapes full of symbols, many he himself defined and gave meaning to.

The photographs and paintings question both Freud’s theories, and what we the viewers see in them.

This Diptych is part of the “Pink Freud and the pleasant horizon“, a body of work that I started and which has since incorporated several other figures and turned into a bigger project.

It is a work picturing one of Pink Freud’s  dreams, an endless landscape with endless pink steam locomotives passing each other, the steam turning into whipped cream, and the industrial locomotives look like they are part sweet pastry.

In this dream the industrial revolution has become an orgy of motion and tactile sweets.

Being a sequence of two almost identical images the work continues my exploration of the relationship between painting and the moving image. Here the two images work as two frames in a film, the size difference causing an instability like the film skipping in a movie.
Having two images like this forces the viewer to think of this not as a single subjective painting/image but a “film documented” sequence. It explores the contradiction between the painted surface and moving image.
