LAKES, FISH & RAIN

Works from the 1990s

Exhibited, James Graham & Sons Gallery, New York, NY

The image of water, as a symbol and structural metaphor, runs deep in the work of ANDRE VON MORISSE. A variety of exactingly painted fish, ranging from exotic species such as piranha and arowana to the more common Rudd and pike, call it home. Water, seen through von Morisse’s crosscut vision, is a giant, cosmic, liquid arena which acts as a metaphorical screen for the projection of human emotions, impulses and drives. To a large degree von Morisse’s work depicts the natural world, particularly its ocean and river life, in order to reflect on the nature of evolution and human development.
